This weekend class will teach faceted round and fancy shape stone setting into prongs, v-prongs, flush set and hammered bezel. You will also learn how to create and set prong and bezel settings to hold unique shape stones such as marquis and pear shape.
Students will be working with sterling silver. Other metals are optional. All tools and materials will be provided. Extra materials and gemstones available for purchase.
Students must have taken Tools and Skill: The Fundamentals of Metalsmith class or have prior experience in soldering, sawing and filing.
Tools & Equipment
Day two consists of reviewing the knowledge of the terminology, tools and skills learned from day one. It also introduces the Princess cut. Tricia will demo putting a princess cut gemstone into a V prong setting. Students will get the chance to practice princess cut setting.
Tricia will also demo a flush setting of 2mm stones into flat ring bands. Students will then practice the flush set skill.
If time allows, Tricia will show how to make a tapered bezel using tubing and hammer-set faceted stone and applying them to create a ring. Students are encouraged to discuss a ring style before class from a selection of rings available to make.
